1. Maintain a Consistent Sleep Schedule

Many adults lack any semblance of a consistent sleep schedule. In some cases, this is the result of unrelentingly busy work schedules. Other times, poor time management is the culprit.

Regardless of why you’re not getting enough sleep, it’s imperative that you nip this problem in the bud. Persistent sleep deprivation is a major contributor to waning energy levels, and the longer you deprive yourself of proper sleep, the harder getting through the day will become.

Giving yourself a designated bedtime is among the most effective ways to combat improper sleep habits. Although many of us haven’t had bedtimes since we were kids, they exist for a reason – providing structure and ensuring that we get enough rest. (As it turns out, our parents were actually on to something!)

With this in mind, give yourself a bedtime that allows for at least seven to eight hours of sleep a night.

Unsurprisingly, if you’ve gotten used to going to bed at random times, you’re liable to have some trouble adjusting to a structured sleep schedule. If you need help getting yourself in a sufficiently relaxed mindset for sleep, shut off your various screens 30 minutes to one hour before bedtime and use this time to engage in relaxing activities.

Deep breathing exercises and meditation can be particularly conducive to achieving a sleep-ready mindset.

2. Get Enough to Eat

Not getting enough to eat can also contribute to low energy reserves. Since food is essentially the fuel our bodies run on, depriving yourself of proper sustenance is hardly conducive to maintaining healthy energy levels.

So, regardless of what your schedule looks like, make a point of eating three balanced meals each day and indulging in healthy snacks between mealtimes. In addition to depleting your energy, regularly skipping meals or consuming unsatisfying meal substitutes stands to upset your digestion and leave you cranky and irritable.

3. Reduce Stress

High stress and low energy often go hand-in-hand. Not only can stress leave you mentally exhausted, but it also stands to empty out your energy reserves. Although all of us feel stressed at one point or another, stress needs to be addressed when it becomes all-consuming.

The longer you allow stress to take hold of your life, the longer you’ll be dealing with waning energy levels.

When working to combat stress, take care to set healthy boundaries at work and home, as feeling perpetually put-upon can be a tremendous source of stress. Furthermore, don’t be afraid of seeking professional help in the form of therapy or counseling.

Talk to a Doctor

With many health problems, the underlying causes aren’t always cut-and-dry, and low energy is no exception. So, if you’re unclear on the root causes of your waning energy levels, reach out to your physician and schedule a consultation.

Once your doctor is able to identify the issue(s) at the heart of your problem, you can both hammer out a mutually agreeable treatment plan.

Depending on what they find, your doctor may recommend that you treat the problem with medication – and possibly even testosterone boosters.
