Summer cut in the forecast?

If you are anything like me, you have probably been cutting for a few weeks because summer is here!

Warm days, fun with friends and sweaty workouts await! While the warm summer months are here, you may have noticed that you are struggling to lose those last couple of pounds on your cut.

As you drop weight, it becomes harder and harder to reach your goal weight. It is certainly not impossible and all that is needed is just a careful eye and a bit of help. Let’s dig into 5 tools that will make your summer cut easier so you are ready for the beach.

Calorie Tracking Apps

5 Tools To Make Your Summer Cut EasierIf you are already dropping pounds, you probably already have a good idea of what healthy food and what you need to avoid. You may already be tracking your food! The one place that people often get tripped up or forget to track completely is alcohol.

Drinking can severely limit your weight loss progress because your body will need to burn off the alcohol first before it gets back to burning fat, not to mention the insulin spike!

What is summer without an ice-cold gin and tonic though? Telling people to completely disregard drinking is almost out of the question because you should be able to get cut while still living your life.

Grab an app such as myfitnesspal if you have not already started tracking your calories and make sure that all drinks go into the tracker. This way you can ensure you are staying below your calorie limit. For those days you go out with friends, make smart choices. Opt for the diet version of tonics, and if you must drink beer, stick to light beers.

Both are lower in calories than their counterparts and taste basically the same.

Do NOT Eyeball Your Food

If this is your first time dropping weight for summer, or you are a seasoned professional, eyeballing the amount of food you are eating is probably a bad idea. Just by looking at something you cannot accurately estimate how many calories you are taking in. This is the downfall for a lot of people.

They will complain that even though they are eating healthy foods, they are still stuck at the same weight or in the worst cases gaining. Yikes!

The best way to combat this is to get a food scale and weigh out the meals that you prepare. This is an accurate and inexpensive way to stick to your diet and know exactly what you are eating. Weight scales are not expensive and you can pick one up for around 10 dollars at the store. Get one, use it, and start to love it.

This is essential for anyone who wants to get to their goal weight as soon as possible.

Grab A Bathroom Scale

People will go back and forth to when the best time to weigh yourself is.

What you need to take away from this is that you need to weigh yourself consistently at the same time. This can be the same time every day, the same time every week, or biweekly. You just need to pick what is best for you and stick with it.

Weight scales can be all over the place. Ensure that you pick up an accurate digital scale (some of them calculate body fat percentages but these are often just estimates) and set a schedule to when you are going to weigh yourself. If you are mentally strong and can handle the swings up and down from day-to-day activities, I like to recommend you weigh yourself as soon as you wake up every morning at the same time.

You can then log this weight and see your progress over time which can be motivating to keep pushing forward.

Drink More Water

This may not come off as a tool for most of you, but this is an essential part of losing weight. Drink water! Drink a lot more water than you usually get. When I cut weight fast, I like to drink at LEAST a gallon of water a day.

This will make sure that you are hydrated the entire day. Typically when people feel thirsty it is the body signaling that it is already dehydrated and you are already too later. Grab yourself a gallon jug at the store, fill it up in the morning, and sip on it all day. At first, this will seem like a lot of water and you cannot possibly do it. You will be running to the bathroom every 5 minutes as well. I promise it does get better!

This should make your body fully hydrated and have fewer hunger pains throughout the day and you will begin to feel lighter on your feet with much fewer bathroom breaks required.

Track Your Cardio

Besides lifting, when you are cutting, you need to be getting in your daily cardio as well. You can lose weight just fine with lifting and watching your calories but if you want to accelerate things, then you need to work your cardiovascular system.

I personally find cardio in a gym extremely boring and because of this, I often skip it. The goal here is to make cardio fun and mix it up.

If you like exploring the places jump on a bike or put on some shoes and go for a run. Strava is a great app that is 100% free and will track how far you run, map it out with GPS, and give you data about how many calories you have burned.

Get active and burn those extra calories. Even going out for a walk is better than sitting on the couch and catching up on that extra episode you missed last week.

Wrap-Up

Losing weight and getting that summer cut on is no easy task, but if you stick to the basics you will get to your goal.

Set a calorie deficit and stick with it, get active, and track your progress. It really is that easy. You can do this!
