Superfoods That Fit into Your Budget

Superfoods: Get the most out of your food

There is nothing better than a list of awesome superfoods that can help you lose weight (or just be healthier in general) while on a budget – nutrition at its finest!

Eat up on these superfoods

Think of your body like a pinball machine. Think of foods as little silver balls. Regular foods are the balls that strike a few hot spots on the machine before guttering out. Superfoods, on the other hand, are the balls that light the whole machine up, hitting multiple target zones at once.

Superfoods aren’t pills or supplements. They’re real foods found in nature that richly benefit our bodies in numerous ways.

The only problem is sometimes a superfood that has been super the whole time suddenly becomes a fad — do I even have to say acai? — and the price spikes.

Superfoods That Fit into Your BudgetLuckily, most superfoods aren’t that expensive, and the ones that are quite often going on sale. Here are a few of them:

1. Broccoli

The humble broccoli, rarely seen in American cooking unless it’s bathed in cheddar cheese sauce, is a powerful food. It’s packed with the flavonoid kaemferol, a natural anti-allergen.

Broccoli also has plenty of Vitamins K and A, which in turn help the body absorb and use Vitamin D. Anyone interested in starting a cleanse should incorporate broccoli in their diets, as it’s also great at detoxifying the body.

2. Blueberries

Blueberries have an anti-inflammatory agent, making them beneficial at fighting a host of illnesses, and are highly effective at preventing heart disease and cancer.

Blueberries can be a little pricey at times. Buy them in season for the best prices when they’re fresh, or by them frozen.

3. Spinach

We should have been listening to Popeye all along. Spinach is packed with iron and vitamins that strengthen our bones, protect our eyesight, ward off cancer, and helps us fight inflammation. Spinach is also very affordable year-round.

4. Soy

Soy isn’t recommended for anyone with a family history of breast cancer. If you don’t, eat up. Soy is wonderful for lowering unhealthy cholesterol levels. We aren’t talking about soy sauce, which has enough sodium to stop a train.

Look for soy milk or tofu. Edamame is the whole version of soy, still in the pod or shelled. Steam them with a little sea salt for a healthy and affordable snack.

5. Eggs

Eggs have gotten bad attention from the media for their delicious yellow centers but ignore the naysayers. Eggs are dense in protein and vitamins like A, D, E, B6, and B12.

They have calcium and magnesium, and 100 percent of the carotenoids needed to keep your eyes healthy.

Studies show that an egg a day may be one of the single best diet choices you can make, and it won’t raise your cholesterol.

6. Mustard Greens

Mustard greens are great for your blood and your bones. They’re also excellent for reducing the amount of bile acid in our bodies, which is necessary for lowering unhealthy cholesterol levels. Greens are least expensive when bought fresh and in season.

Wrap-Up

These are just a few of the superfoods you should be packing into your diet for amazing health benefits.
