The Weird and Wonderful World of Anti-Aging Treatments

Weird World of Anti-Aging Treatments

Anti-aging skincare is absolutely huge right now. All we want is to stay young and beautiful forever – which can’t be too much to ask, right?

Anti-aging treatments

That depends on how far you’re prepared to go in the name of young, supple skin. Feast your eyes on these genuinely bizarre anti-aging treatments.

Cryogenic Chamber

We hate being cold, so this one is probably not for us, but apparently, the minus-200 temperatures in cryogenic freezing chambers are great for keeping the skin younger for longer.

Being temporarily turned into a popsicle is also great for boosting metabolism, burning calories, fighting cellulite, and upping collagen production. Demi Moore and Daniel ‘James Bond’ Craig both swear by it.

Vampire Facial

Made famous, as many other things have been, by Kim Kardashian, this facial isn’t as scary as it sounds.

You simply have some blood drained out of your body and re-injected into your face to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles. Totally normal.

Sheep Placenta Facial

Yep, there are facials weirder than ones involving your own blood. Enter the sheep placenta facial, which offers a 30-day boost of youthful glowy skin, thanks to the fact that sheep placentas are packed with nutrients.

The Weird and Wonderful World of Anti-Aging TreatmentsWho comes up with these ideas? How do they know so much about sheep placentas? The mind boggles.

That said, there’s a lot of research being done around stem cell reverse aging treatments. Maybe we’re only using sheep placentas until we can use our own?

Bee Venom Facial

Probably not ideal for anyone who’s allergic to bees, the bee venom facial is renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties that firm up the skin and reduce puffiness.

Increasingly popular, these facials can now be done at home, but the venom doesn’t come cheap! Victoria Beckham and the Minogue sisters are big fans of this option.

Nightingale Poop Facial

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any weirder than sheep placentas…

Bird poop facials were born from an old Japanese method of removing heavy geisha and kabuki makeup using nightingale poop. Apparently, the enzymes contained in the poop cleanse the skin and removes old skin cells (file this one alongside the sheep placentas in the ‘who thought of this first and why’ folder).

Modern bird poop skincare uses dried, powdered, and sterilized nightingale feces, which makes it a much less revolting idea.

Leeches

Leeches have been around since medieval times but are currently experiencing a huge popularity boost for clinical uses such as wound healing and drainage.

Unsurprisingly, their age-reversal skills are also back on the table as treatments that use leeches to purify the blood and revitalize the skin are now available (in very select places). This is another one that Demi Moore loves.

Urine

Another example of the anti-aging properties of one’s own bodily fluids, urine is apparently great for giving yourself a morning facial.

Seemingly, urine is packed with nutrients that the body is flushing out that can help with skin hyperpigmentation and discoloration caused by aging.

This sounds great, but also involves peeing on your own face.

Wrap-Up

Wow… Didn’t expect those, right? When it comes to anti-aging treatments, things can get weird because people will go to extreme lengths for that youthful appearance. What would you do?
