Easy Ways To Stay Grounded and Remain Mindful

Many of our daily routines have recently been interrupted – which can cause a lot of unrest, anxiety, sleep problems, negative emotions, etc. It’s very important during these times that we find ways to keep ourselves centered and grounded. Below are a few easy ways to remain mindful in our daily lives.

Stay Grounded and Remain Mindful

Count To Ten

This might seem remedial, but simply taking a breath and counting backward from ten can really help slow the mind and heart.

Feel free to place your hand on your diaphragm or count with your fingers. This can help strengthen the mind-body connection.

Easy Ways To Stay Grounded and Remain Mindful TodayBe Out In Nature

Sometimes laying under a tree, feeling our toes in the grass, and/or feeling the sunlight on our skin can be incredibly grounding.

When doing this try to put all electronics away and just be present.

Let yourself enjoy the wonders around you, and try to find appreciation for things that we usually take for granted such as flowers, birds, clouds, etc.

Positivity Practice

At the beginning and end of each day, I think it’s important to say, think, or write down three things we have to be grateful for.

This can help promote positivity and block our minds from going down a negative rabbit hole.

I find writing these down to be most helpful. I will sometimes refer to my list throughout the day. This practice is most effective when we make each point specific to the current day.

Focus On Your Breath

Similar to counting backward from ten, try taking ten breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.

This sounds simple but can really ground one in their own body. Try to breathe slowly and steadily. This will be most effective when not rushed.

Meditation Object

For tactile folks, it can be helpful to have a meditation object to hold when a little extra mindfulness is needed.

This could be a stone, stuffed animal, trinket, jewelry, or anything else that centers you.

Simply hold this object, and either focuses on how it feels in your fingers or focus on your breath while holding this object.

You could also have a meditation song, where you simply focus on the melody and lyrics in times of stress.

Mindful Activity

Many of us have trouble meditation and/or sitting still. If you struggle with this, I suggest doing a mindful activity such as cleaning, painting, collaging, journaling, puzzles, running, etc. Pick an activity that you enjoy.

Try not to focus on the outcome, but rather the practice of doing this action.

Let yourself create, breathe, and just enjoy the current minute. Try to release yourself from all judgment and criticism as well.

Exercise

Exercise can be incredibly meditative. When exercising try to ground yourself in your body. Put away electronics. Focus on your form, the workout, and your breath.

After doing this, you should feel rejuvenated, empowered, and more balanced.
