Positivity Breeds Positivity
We have a saying at DIY Active: “Positivity breeds positivity!” Hell, we are thinking of even getting this put on the office walls! 🙂 It’s all about building a healthy atmosphere around yourself. Here’s how!
Surround yourself with an atmosphere of positivity
If you surround yourself with positivity, then positive things will follow.
Positive mindset and influences have been shown to have beneficial effects on one’s mind and body, which is especially important when achieving a healthy lifestyle.
Be in Nature
Get away from the hustle and bustle of work and back to your roots. Many are inspired by the splendid views of oceans, mountain tops, and wildflower-filled meadows. Now, research reveals that being immersed in nature has real mental and physical health benefits:
- Boosts immune system
- Lowers blood pressure
- Achieves restful sleep
- Amplifies energy
- Reduces stress and improves mood
- Increases ability to focus
- Aids recovery after surgery or illness
Because the experience is so powerful, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries gave the healing atmosphere of the forest a name—“shinrin-yoku,” which means “forest bathing.” Absorb the healing experience of nature while hiking, jogging, or taking a meditative walk through the woods or park. Reconnect with nature to get a major boost in your overall health and amplified energy when exercising.
Appreciate the Small Things
Do you get overwhelmed worrying about the big picture aspects of life? So many people jump to the worst-case scenario or are so busy that they don’t have time to relax. There’s something to stopping and smelling the roses.
Be mindful of each moment in your life, and appreciate the small things. Such mindfulness is a powerful tool to boost your productivity and lessen your stress. The simple act of enjoying the warmth emanating from a cup of soothing chamomile tea brings your focus and awareness to the present.
Create a motivational journal where you write down something every day that you are thankful for having witnessed or received. Also, record progress on the smallest steps toward your goals, be they professional or physical fitness. Perhaps you took a walk in the botanical gardens and learned the names of a few native plants while reconnecting with nature. Moments like this engage your whole self: mind, body, and spirit.
Engage in Holistic Physical Practices
It’s easy to get caught up in the rat race of a busy day. Many people experience a mind and body disconnect because their mental cup is so full there’s no room for anything else. It’s time to reconnect with the body.
Yoga and Tai Chi are holistic physical activities that cultivate a positive atmosphere and mindset that keep you centered as you achieve a healthy lifestyle. Your mind flows with your body as you move into different forms and stances, holding and releasing each position and breath.
Such activities are extremely centering when your stress is off the charts. The simple act of focusing on your breathing is very mindful and benefits the circulation of your blood while calming your mind. When you breathe, imagine inhaling a smell that calms you or seeing a blue light that represents peace as oxygen slowly fills your lungs. When you exhale, release the weight of your stress.
Yoga also helps with flexibility and toning, both mind and body. Tai Chi focuses on very slow but fluid movements, which may be best for those with more chronic health issues. Try one of these practices to boost your health and stop your monkey mind’s incessant chattering.
When a stressful event occurs in life, people often tell you to “Just be positive.”
That’s nice, but it doesn’t give you much motivation or direction. You can place yourself in a positive environment and engage in positive practices to boost the health of your mind, body, and spirit.
So, strap on those hiking boots and dare to climb mountains to achieve your highest goals.
