Best Outdoor Workouts To Get You Going

So what exactly are the best outdoor workouts? Well, in all honesty, they are the outdoor activities that get you up and active and enjoying the great outdoors. As it warms up, let’s start making it a daily habit to get up, outside, and active!

Energize with these best outdoor workouts

Spring is right around the corner, which means warmer and brighter weather (hopefully!). I can definitely tell my mood improves in the spring. The Seasonal affective disorder is a real thing!

With warmer temps, why not take your workouts outdoors for a fun energy boost?

Check out some workouts below to help you take advantage of the beautiful outdoors.

Instead of doing your workout on the elliptical indoors, jump on a bike and explore the outdoors. I am fortunate enough to live close to a greenline where I can just hop on my bike and ride for as many miles as my heart desires. I have found that biking outside either with friends or alone is a great way to relieve stress. Once I was enjoying the scenery so much, I didn’t realize how far I had actually biked!

It was a long ride back home, ha! Another great thing about biking is that you can control your speed and intensity. Go for a leisurely ride or ramp it up and have a major sweat session!

Running

One of my favorite things to do while on vacation at the beach is to run. It is an awesome feeling to have the wind cooling you off! However, you don’t have to be at the beach to enjoy running outdoors. When you run outside, it is much easier to set your eyes on a goal and run to that point instead of just running in place on a treadmill.

Running outside will always be one of my favorite workouts! And one of the best parts about this workout is that no equipment is needed!

Swimming

Swimming is another fun summertime activity and exercise. Did you know that you can actually burn up to 585 calories per hour just with a simple breaststroke? On a hot summer day, I love spending some time in the pool.

Swimming won’t even feel like a workout if it is refreshing and fun!

Basketball

I’m not going to lie –  I’ve never been the best basketball player. However, a game of CAT or just shooting around is always something I’ve had fun with. Plus, if I’m not making the shots then that means more running for me to get the rebounds! Find a basketball court in your area and go shoot some hoops to burn off some steam!

Take Your Workout to the Park

Did you know that most of the exercises you do in the gym can be translated straight to park equipment? Think push-ups or step-ups on a park bench or even pull-ups on monkey bars or a tree branch. You can even bring your jump rope outdoors so you can enjoy some nice scenery while working hard.

Hiking

If you’re not in the mood for an intense workout, a walk or hike can be the perfect stress reliever. If you have a dog, take him/her on a walk or to your local dog park. The exercise will be good for you as well as your pet! Going on a hike can also be a great time for you to meet up with your friends who have pets and enjoy a workout together!

Grab a friend and play a game of tennis. Tennis is a full-body workout that improves your cardiovascular health as well as combining strength training for your arms, legs, and upper body. If that wasn’t enough, tennis also gives your mind a good workout as well!

Canoe/Kayak

Canoeing and kayaking could easily be one of the most challenging outdoor workouts. Your workout all depends on the resistance of the water at the time of your exercise. The water might be calm – or it could be really choppy and hard to paddle through.

The fun of this workout is that you can’t control what you get!

Wrap-Up

Working out outdoors always seems to give me the awesome energy boost that I’ve been craving! Especially after a long day at work or being inside all day, spending time outside gives me the little kick I need. I usually like to work out in the evenings, but waking up in the morning and getting some fresh air is the perfect way to start your day!

Try some of these best outdoor workouts and start getting more fresh air and improving your health!

I’d love to hear your thoughts about some amazing outdoor workouts that you’ve tried.
