What’s a Weight Loss Trigger?

Losing weight, building muscle, or even maintaining your physique is hard. It’s so easy to forget to drink enough water, or eat enough fiber, or get up and walk around the office to stretch…etc.

Frankly, it’s easier to let yourself go…good thing we aren’t like that, right?

Of course, you can always set 1,020 alarms on your phone but who wants to deal with those annoying alarms (might make you throw your phone out the window). We need easy ways to mentally remember these things. Mental triggers might be the answer to trigger your weight loss!

What I mean by mental triggers is whenever you get in a common situation that you experience multiple times a day you start thinking about healthy or other life-improving practices.

For example, every time you get a text message try to drink more water. Or every time you get in your car plan out your workout for the day. Or every time you walk into a grocery store or restaurant remember healthy eating habits (like the green face).

Now, this does sound a little OCD but that’s okay. We are trying to build healthy lifestyle habits and these triggers can be just the ticket.

Because you are doing this over and over again you will create a habit that can lead to improving your health!

Triggers are Everywhere

You probably already use an enormous amount of triggers. For me, it’s every time I finish my coffee I go get more (not really a trigger)!

The fact of the matter is that we can implement these triggers to really help us with almost anything.

Every time you stand in a line (traffic jam, at the store, at the ball game…etc.) think of ways to improve your relationships. Every time you brush your teeth sing Happy Birthday (or whatever) to make sure you are doing it long enough. This list can go on and on.

One of the more important triggers you can implement is all about creating the right frame of mind in order to get the results that have been eluding you.

Let’s face it, most things are mental. If you believe you can do something then you WILL. But it’s hard to believe in yourself if you never think positive thoughts.

Try this just for one week and see how it works: Every SINGLE time you walk through a door tell yourself, “I can do this; I will reach my goals!” Eventually, you will actually believe it and it will come to be reality!

The important thing is that you are instilling triggers to help you remember to live a healthier, happy life.

By setting these triggers up to occur every time you do very common tasks (putting on clothes, washing your hair, walking through a door…etc.) can help you to create healthy habits.

While it might be a little OCD and seem strange, it just might be the ticket you need to start getting the results you want. After all, your results start with your mentality.
